Introductory crate training progress, as of 6.20.24: bandit is progressing with his crate training as expected. He is doing well and going to sleep in the crate at every nap during the day and at night. expect some occasional whining upon first entry of the crate, but he will eventually settle after a minute or two. if he's well exercised, is not hungry, and has pottied, he would settle right away without any fuss. at night, bandit is sleeping around 1-2 hours before needing to potty, but expect for him to be able to sleep longer at new home without the distraction of his littermates. crate training should continue at new home to ensure he becomes completely comfortable with the crate. training has to be consistent. if you allow him to sleep outside of the crate enough, he may fuss more when you do put him in the crate. at night, only take him out to potty and immediately place him back in the crate when done. don't let him play at night. take him out right away if he whines to go potty to avoid accidents (so far, he has not had a single accident in his crate). when you take him out of the crate, he may potty or he may try to play or lie down on the floor to sleep. put him back in the crate. if you have a bed or blanket in his crate, ensure the room is cool. If he can't seem to settle in his crate, it may be too warm for him. some pups prefer to sleep on the cool tray. give last water an hour before bed and ensure he potties before crating. he will usually pee twice, about 20-30+ minutes apart. when crated at night, expect him to wake up within 1 to 2 hours to potty. when he goes back in the crate, he should sleep for longer (2-3+ hours) if you don't give water. be consistent with his crate training and once he's fully trained and house broken, then you can allow him to sleep freely in your home, if you wish. he's currently using an 18" crate but will need to transtion to a 24" crate at new home. if using a larger crate, use a divider to ensure he has just enough space to stand up, do a full 360 turn. this will avoid him going potty in the crate if se really needs to go.

personality: from what we've observed over the weeks, bandit is friendly, social, affectionate, and outgoing. he is playful and loves attention. he likes to rough house with his littermates and loves being the center of attention.

interpretation of test results:

bandit would be good for the average home, whether a first time or second time dog owner. He can be a high-energy dog and may need lots of exercise. He would generally be good with people, other animals, and children. He will need to have structure and follow a consistent schedule at his new home. He will need training but he will do very well at it and learn quickly. Socialization and desensitization training should continue at new home. He's a little sensitive to touch under his paws so it's important to continue with weekly nail trimmings and grooming with positive reinforcement (high value treats). The more he's exposed to these grooming practices, the more he will become desensitized. also ensure to use high value treats when socializing in public areaS, meeting new people, or with anY unfamiliar experience, whether it be a loud noise, new place, object, etc. Remember to positively reinforce the good behavior, not the unwanted behavior. from what was observed during the test, bandit was confident and friendly. he was very excited and was vigorously wagging his tail. he was very eager to please and even retrieverd the crumpled up paper back to the tester. bandit is a very outgoing puppy so he will need consistent training and good recall to ensure his excitement can be kept under control when older.
