Introductory crate training progress, as of 6.20.24: muffin is progressing with her crate training as expected. she is doing well and going to sleep in the crate at every nap during the day and at night. expect some occasional whining upon first entry of the crate, but she will eventually settle after a minute or two. if she's well exercised, is not hungry, and has pottied, she would settle right away without any fuss. at night, she is sleeping around 1-2 hours before needing to potty, but expect for her to be able to sleep longer at new home without the distraction of her littermates. crate training should continue at new home to ensure she becomes completely comfortable with the crate. training has to be consistent. if you allow her to sleep outside of the crate enough, she may fuss more when you do put her in the crate. at night, only take her out to potty and immediately place her back in the crate when done. don't let her play at night. take her out right away if she whines to go potty to avoid accidents (so far, she has not had a single accident in her crate). when you take her out of the crate, she may potty or she may try to play or lie down on the floor to sleep. put her back in the crate. if you have a bed or blanket in her crate, ensure the room is cool. If she can't seem to settle in her crate, it may be too warm for her. some pups prefer to sleep on the cool tray. give last water an hour before bed and ensure she potties before crating. she will usually pee twice, about 20-30+ minutes apart. when crated at night, expect her to wake up within 1 to 2 hours to potty. when she goes back in the crate, she should sleep for longer (2-3+ hours) if you don't give water. be consistent with her crate training and once she's fully crate trained and house broken, then you can allow her to sleep freely in your home, if you wish. she's currently using an 18" crate but will need to transtion to a 24" crate at new home. if using a larger crate, use a divider to ensure she has just enough space to stand up, do a full 360 turn. this will avoid her going potty in the crate if she really needs to go.

personality: from what we've observed over the weeks, muffin is friendly, social, and attentive. she is curious and playful and is not shy to explore.

interpretation of test results:

muffin would be good for the average home, whether a first time or second time dog owner. She can be a high-energy dog and may need lots of exercise. She would generally be good with people, other animals, and children. She will need to have structure and follow a consistent schedule at her new home. She will need training but she will do very well at it and learn quickly. Socialization and desensitization training should continue at new home. She's a little sensitive to touch under her paws so it's important to continue with weekly nail trimmings and grooming with positive reinforcement (high value treats). The more she's exposed to these grooming practices, the more she will become desensitized. also ensure to use high value treats when socializing in public areaS, meeting new people, or with any unfamiliar experience, whether it be a loud noise, new place, object, etc. Remember to positively reinforce the good behavior, not the unwanted behavior. from what was observed during the test, muffin was friendly and affectionate. she had no interest retrieving during the test but she was curious wiht her surroundings. she will need consistent training and socialization to ensure she becomes a sound dog someday.
