WHELP DAY: NOVEMBER 28, 2021

  • Talia had a natural delivery with no complications.

  • We have a total of 6 puppies - 5 girls, 1 boy

  • No runt in the litter

  • All puppies latched on quickly and are loading up on the colostrum

  • Mama is doing a fabulous job!

WEEK 1

  • Day 1 - 7

  • Puppies continue to nurse very well and are growing everyday

  • Started Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) on Day 3 which includes a series of exercises that are done once a day focusing on one pup at a time

    • Tactile Stimulation - Holding pup in one hand while gently stimulating (tickling) pup between toes with a Q-Tip, stimulating one foot at a time for 5 seconds

    • Head Held Erect - Hold puppy perpendicular to the ground, straight up in an upward position, so that pup's head is directly above its tail for 5 seconds

    • Head Pointed Down - Hold puppy with both hands with head pointed downwards so that it is pointing towards the ground for 5 seconds

    • Supine Position - Hold puppy with back resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling for 5 seconds

    • Thermal Stimulation - Place puppy on a cool surface for 5 seconds (we place puppy on a stainless steel table top)

  • Mama is recovering very well and is actively nursing and cleaning puppies frequently throughout the day

  • We stimulate puppies to potty with a warm damp cloth at least once a day to ensure all pups are eliminating properly

WEEK 2

  • Day 8 - 14

  • Continue ENS

  • Puppies are crawling more vigorously

  • Their sense of smell is keen

  • Eyes started opening up around day 10

  • Puppies continue to thrive with no issues with nursing or eliminating

  • We continue to assist Mama with stimulating puppies to go puppy at least once a day to ensure puppies are comfortable

  • We named the puppies after some of our favorites Christmas songs

  • Dewormed puppies with Nemex 2 (pyrantel)

  • Weekly nail trim & daily wipe down with a warm damp cloth to keep pups clean

WEEK 3

  • Day 15 - 21

  • Completed ENS at Day 16

  • Puppies can hear! They are alert and react to noise

  • They are walking on all fours now, a little wobbly but getting better everyday

  • Started on gruel twice a day- puppies are enjoying the solid food but are still nursing frequently. Gruel is Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach Lamb & Oats Puppy Formula blended with water

  • They are going potty on their own and mama helps keep them clean

  • They are beginning to play with each other and are learning to play with toys

  • Puppies are being handled daily with gentle strokes, pets, and scratches

  • Weekly nail trim & daily wipe down with a warm damp cloth to keep pups clean

  • Dewormed puppies with Nemex 2 (pyrantel)

  • Last week being in the whelping box

WEEK 4

  • Day 22 - 28

  • Puppies are out of the whelping box and into their play area

  • Puppies are walking, hopping, running, pouncing, and climbing. They are working on their motor skills daily. They are wrestling with each other, playing toys, climbing on their bridge and saucer

  • They are eating gruel 3x a day right now (7AM, 1PM, & 7PM) and nursing in between

  • They are beginning to potty on their own without need for stimulation

  • Puppies get a lot of attention and interaction from family members

  • We are introducing different stimuli to desensitize them. This week we are focusing on loud noises via YouTube. We do a lot of praising and encouragement to help puppies feel comfortable. After a couple of minutes, they are unphased by the noises

    • Dogs barking

    • Fireworks

    • Loud Garbage Truck

    • Cats meowing

    • Loud vacuum cleaner

  • Had their first bath.

  • Dewormed puppies with Nemex 2 (pyrantel)

WEEK 5

  • Day 29 - 35

  • Pups moved to a bigger play area - 12x12'

  • Potty training begins

  • Crate training begins

  • Eating gruel 4-5x a day. Almost completely weaned off mama.

  • Dewormed puppies with Nemex 2 (pyrantel)

  • Pups are very playful and active

  • They love playing with their toys and with each other

  • Socializing them to different stimuli

  • Lots of stimulation and desensitization such as vacuum cleaner, TV, dogs barking, etc)

  • Enjoying their different toys and agility play toys

  • Dewormed with Nemex 2 (pyrantel)

  • Dose of Neopar shot (parvo shot)

WEEK 6

  • Day 36 - 42

  • Expanded pups play area to a 12x20'

  • Pups are eating whole kibble just fine (not blended) 4x a day (7AM, 12PM, 5PM, 10PM)

  • Puppies are completely weaned

  • Crate training with closed door begins

  • Potty training continues. Pups are going potty on aritificial grass most of the time but still have some accidents, which is expected

  • Playing more actively

  • Lots of running, jumping, pouncing, wrestling, etc.

WEEK 7

  • Day 43 - 49

  • Extended crate time with door closed

  • Potty training continues. Now working on being able to hold themselves while in the crate

  • Still eating whole kibble 4x a day

  • Socialization and desensitization continued

  • Introduced to younger puppies

  • Worked on puppy manding

  • Dewormed with Panacur for 5 days as treatment or prevention of parasites and giardia; treat again in 2 weeks

  • Bath & Nail Trim

WEEK 8

  • Day 50 - 56

  • Pups are sleeping in their crates for 2-3 hours at a time. They sometimes have to potty sooner but mostly they are able to hold for 2 hours.

  • Eating 3x a day now (7AM, 1PM, 7PM)

  • One dose of Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza (DHPP) shot on January 17; Next dose is due in 3 weeks on Feb 7

  • Dewormed with Nemex 2 (pyrantel) for treatment or prevention of parasites

  • Dewormed with Toltrazuril for treatment or prevention of coccidia

  • Vet check on 1/19; All pups are healthy with no issues

  • Worked on car ride desensitaztion

  • Took a walk next to busy street to desensitize

  • Outdoor water play; water socialization

  • Playing with lots of stimulating toys; lots of agility play

  • More outdoor play time

  • Bath, nail trim, ears cleaned

  • Microchipped

Crate Training:

  • Progressing well.

  • Settles down quickly in the crate without protest.

  • Able to sleep for 2 hours but needs to be taken out immediately or he will potty in his crate.

  • Will sometimes whine or bark if needs to be taken out

  • Best to take him out to potty before he wakes to avoid accidents

  • Needs a very snug crate space to start

Potty Training:

  • He did OK going on the aritificial grass to potty but had several accidents.

  • Will need strict and very consistent potty schedule

Other Things to Note:

  • He likes to chew

  • Playful and friendly

  • Mostly confident

Weight: 9.5 LBS

Crate Training:

  • Progressing well.

  • Typically settles down quickly in the crate but will sometimes protest.

  • She will settle after a couple of mins so OK to let her cry it out

  • Able to consistently sleep for 2 at a time but will need to be taken out immediately to potty when she wakes or she will have an accident

  • Will bark or whine if needs to be taken out but will not wait for you

  • Best to take her out to potty before she wakes to avoid accidents

Potty Training:

  • She did OK going on the aritificial grass to potty but had several accidents.

  • Will need strict and very consistent potty schedule

Other Things to Note:

  • Playful and affectionate

  • She needs more encouragement with different stimuli

  • Will sometimes refuse to get out of crate and prefers to sleep

Potty Training:

  • She is doing well on the artificial grass with very minimal pee accidents.

  • Will need consistent potty schedule

Other Things to Note:

  • More reserved and calm than the rest but will occasionally have her burst of energy and do the zoomies.

  • May need a bit of time to warm up to new situations/animals/people but will do very well once adjusted

  • Progressing very well.

  • May be suitable for a more active family

  • Had occasional accidents.

Other Things to Note:

  • Very affectionate and social

  • Good with children.

Gotcha Day: January 23, 2022

  • Families choose their puppies by appointment according to place in pick

  • Once puppy is chosen, we will register microchip to AKC Reunite with family's info. Family will have full ownership of dog but we will remain as alternate contact for microchip in case dog is lost or stolen and family cannot be reached

  • Family photo with puppy

  • Puppy will go home with 4 lbs. bag of Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach Lamb & Oat Puppy formula, vet notes, shot record, and extras.
